Can a family-tested air fryer cookbook beat the typical self-published book?
Why this idea
In our check of 73 Kindle niches, the typical self-published book made $16 a month. Air fryer cookbooks were one of the exceptions: the typical self-published book in that niche made about $272 a month. Instead of 500 untested AI recipes, this book has fewer recipes – each one actually cooked and rated by a family.
The data behind it
- Typical self-published air fryer cookbook (Amazon US)
- $272/mo
- Typical self-published Kindle book across 73 niches
- $16/mo
- Niche-down "high protein air fryer"
- $4/mo – busted
The plan
- Generate about 60 recipe drafts, cook about 45 at home, keep the 40 that pass.
- Rate every recipe: taste, effort, would we cook it again.
- Publish as Kindle and paperback.
- Report sales and royalties after 30 and 90 days.
Kill criterion
[[KILL_CRITERION – e.g. under $50 royalties per month after 90 days]]
Success criterion
[[SUCCESS_CRITERION – e.g. at least $136 per month after 90 days, half of the typical book]]
